Welcome to the Youngstown Workforce Development Initiative, an ambitious program launched by Youngstown Forward. The mission is simple and straightforward: to build a skilled workforce that will drive economic growth, attract businesses, and create well-paying job opportunities for our residents. By focusing on in-demand Web technology, digital marketing, and Data Science and Analysis skills, we’re preparing Youngstown for a brighter, more prosperous future.
The Vision
The Youngstown Workforce Development Initiative is designed to reskill and upskill local residents in essential web technologies and digital content strategies. With this initiative and the programs associated, the expectation is to train 200-500 individuals with the skills needed to secure jobs paying $55,000-$75,000 annually or more in fields such as web development, digital marketing, and even higher with data management related skills.
The goal is to make Youngstown a magnet for businesses by providing them with a ready-made talent pool skilled in modern, high-demand digital competencies. Whether businesses are looking to establish branch offices, relocate operations, or hire remotely, Youngstown will be the go-to destination.
Program Highlights
Comprehensive Training in Web Technology and Digital Marketing
Participants will gain hands-on experience in:
- Web Development to master the essentials like HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript;
- SEO and Content Strategy to learn how to drive organic traffic and create compelling digital content;
- Web Infrastructure Management which will foster the understanding of web hosting, domain management, and Web server maintenance;
- Data Science and Data Analysis;
- Data Integrity and Generative AI to bring them onto the cutting edge and leverage the power of AI for content creation, automate workflows, and to ensure data validity
Targeted Audience
This program will be designed for and open to everyone in Youngstown, but we’re making a special effort to include returning citizens seeking a fresh start, individuals already enrolled in job training programs with other organizations which can streamline or transition into this one, and in order to help with the effort of reducing recidivism—this program will extend to those who are currently incarcerated with one year or less remaining on non-violent, non-theft, or non-fraud related sentences.
Flexible Training Options
Offering a hybrid learning experience of both in-person and online classes to fit the needs of our participants, this program will be flexible enough to accommodate today’s lifestyle of multitasking and layered workloads. The curriculum will be designed by vetted and qualified industry professionals to ensure trainees are job-ready and competitive in the marketplace.
Job Placement and Opportunities
The Workforce Development Initiative isn’t just training. Those who go through the program will have access to direct employment opportunities through our companion job forum on YoungstownForward.org, which is currently in development. This Youngstown-exclusive platform connects our newly skilled workforce with companies eager to hire talent in areas like web development, digital marketing, Data Science and more.
Additionally, Youngstown Forward will establish partnerships with local businesses and national employers to secure job placements for our those who graduate from our program. Whether the trainees are aiming to work on-site or remotely, this initiative is designed to open those doors.
Investing in Youngstown’s Future
Graduates
Participants who complete the training and secure employment will be encouraged to live and work in or from Youngstown. For those who land jobs through our training, job forum, or with a skill which they acquired via the Youngstown Workforce Development Initiative, and that requires them to work outside the area, there will be a partial income tax obligation for a 1-year period to ensure they continue contributing to our community’s growth.

Businesses relocating to or expanding in Youngstown will benefit from tax incentives and first access to a pool of highly trained talent.
